The article describes the early stages of the development and implementation of an integrated undergraduate nanotechnology theme within the 2014 civil and environmental engineering (CEE) curriculum at the University of South Carolina. Particular focus is givenn on the environmental implications associated with the end-of-life management of nanomaterial-containinng products. Topics covered include pedagogical approach called Environments for Fostering Effective Critical Thinking (EFFECTs).
