The article presents information related to political issues. There has been during the past few weeks, there is no question, a sensible decline in U.S. politician Samuel Jones Tilden's prospects, partly owing to the impression made on the public mind by his income-tax return, and partly owing to the gross mismanagement of the Saratoga Convention in what was supposed to be the seat of his strength, and in the very State in which it was most necessary that he should be strong. There has been, too, contemporaneously with this pari passu. one might almost say, a marked increase in the audacity of the bad element in the Republican party. The number of silver resumptionists in the press seems to increase steadily, and curiously enough the most prominent advocates of this mode of reaching specie payments are papers which have hitherto been prominent as independent. Their theory is, that prior to 1873 there was a happy period when gold and silver were both, as they had been from the foundation of the government, in use as a standard of value to the great comfort of the people and the furtherance of commercial transactions.
