Abstract (English):
This study analyzed the relationship between sixth grade students’ metacognition beliefs and some variables such as gender, schools’ location, mother’s and father’s education level. In this research, survey method was used to collect data from 624 sixth grade students who were attending to six middle schools in Kayseri. “Metacognition Scale” (MS) which is developed for 5-8 grade students and “demographics information part” which was added by the researcher were administered to students. Non-parametric tests, Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U, were used to analyze data (p < 0.05). The result of the study indicated that metacognitive beliefs for sixth grade students were similar for both female students and male students. Schools’ location makes a significant difference for the sixth grade students’ metacognition beliefs in favor of schools in the higher socio-economic neighborhood. Sixth grade students whose mothers have an education level higher than high school have higher metacognitive abilities than other students. Fathers’ education level which is above the university makes significant mean difference of the sixth-grade students’ metacognition abilities. The results of the study were discussed according to educational implications and future studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
