Abstract (English):
-
Electroencephalography (EEG) is the most specific diagnostic method in the evaluation of patients with epilepsy. The typical findings in so-called genetic (idiopathic) generalized epilepsy syndromes are generalized interictal epileptiform discharges (IED), mostly in the form of generalized polyspikes and spike-and-wave complexes. These are frequently recorded using activation methods, which is helpful in diagnosing the syndrome and therefore selection of the appropriate medication. Typical EEG findings and their clinical relevance are reviewed with the focus on the EEG results of the Janz syndrome. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
