The employment relations community lost one of its best with the passing of Professor David Marsden, who died unexpectedly on Tuesday 10 August 2021 following complications of cancer treatment. His most recent paper, 'Patterns of organizational ownership and employee well-being in Britain' published in this issue of the BJIR (Marsden, 2021), focused on employee well-being, which David linked to the intrinsic and extrinsic rewards of work. For example, Professor Elke Schuessler, who was a Master's student at LSE in academic year 2000-2001, fondly remembers participating in David's Comparative Industrial Relations and Comparative HRM classes, 'We learnt about the theory of employment systems, of course, but also so much more.
