The influence of pulsed electron irradiation on the deformation behavior of Al–10Si–2Cu–1Ni (wt %) silumin during uniaxial tension is investigated using a digital image correlation method. Both the irradiated and unirradiated alloy exhibits two hardening stages, the lengths of which are larger for the irradiated alloy. No prefracture stage has been revealed. Deformation localization images are shown to change in accordance with the deformation stages. The alloy in both states undergoes brittle fracture. The strength and ductility of the alloy with a modified surface approximately double. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
