This article discusses the reading buddy program at one particular school, which pairs up a first grade student with a fifth grade student who reads with him or her. The article provides instructions on how to be a good reading buddy and suggests follow-up activities to keep all students on task. Factors are discussed including how to be an effective reading buddy, how to chose the right book to read, and what steps should be taken before the two students meet. One teacher who implemented the reading buddy system in her school created a questionnaire that the buddies can go over when the reading of a book has concluded.
