The article discusses about the filmmaker Lonnie van Brummelen, who was awarded the prestigious Prix de Rome for her film "Grossraum". In the film, the documented images reveal flora and beautiful patterns of texture and color. This installation indicates that van Brummelen is aware of an important terrain that bridges the too often contradictory consideration of aesthetics and issues. As stated, "Grossraum" is a sequential, single-channel, 35 mm film installation in three parts which examines three sensitive border points along Europe, which is paradoxically expanding its territory while tightening its frontiers. Van Brummelen made pilgrimages to remote sites in Poland, Ukraine and Cyprus, along with lumbering camera equipment to witness and capture daily life and landscapes on film.
