Abstract (English):
-
This paper aims to highlight the distinctive features that characterized the early Christian thought about a matter of great significance: the ecstatic journey of the prophet. In this investigation, which is based on some Christian works written within the first three centuries, the eschatological, judicial and martyrological elements allow to define both the theological coordinates of the visionary's journey and the content of his prophetic announcement. In particular, the dilation of the sensory parameters is crucial during Paul's transfer to the third heaven in 2 Corinthians 12:1-4: in the Ascension of Isaiah this subject is bound to the eschatological anabasis and katabasis of the Beloved, foreshadowed by the ascent and descent of Isaiah and his prophecy, which leads him to martyrdom. This aspect also connotes the Visiones of the Shepherd of Hermas. Here the path taken by Hermas anticipates the martyr's future participation to the apocalyptic judgment and the subsequent entry into the Kingdom: as the Passio Perpetuae shows, this moment, restricted only to those faithful who have poured out their blood, is mediated by numerous angelic figures.
