This article analyses the origins of guerrilla warfare and its impact on the Peninsular War (1808-1814), as well as the emergence of the press and the development of war propaganda during this conflict. The article goes on to discuss a specific case, that of guerrillero Jerónimo Merino, better-known as El Cura Merino (The Priest Merino), who achieved considerable renown thanks to his actions while leading his guerrilla group, as well as due to his numerous appearances in the newspapers of his time.
