Abstract (English):: This paper examines the international diffusion and circulation of school hygiene knowledge and practices. Material taken from fifteen international hygiene conferences (from 1852 to 1912) and from four international school hygiene congresses (from 1904 to 1913) is used to investigate the interactions of scientific debates with national and local practices. We look first at unifying themes and innovative concepts of school hygiene that emerged from these congresses, and the people who participated in them, during the Third Republic and before the First World War. Then we consider the limited influence these enormous meetings of scientific and political elites had on health education and changing hygienic practices in schools. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
