Very few works on the Pakistan Movement have analyzed the efforts of women of the Punjab in the freedom struggle. Further, available works highlight services of women in the elite section of society. The present paper is an attempt to bring to light the process of developing political consciousness among Punjabi Muslim women belonging to all sections of society. It also analyzes their services and sacrifices which they rendered during the Pakistan Movement. The paper examines women's activism particularly during the final stage of the Pakistan Movement. At this stage, Punjabi Muslim women set aside their home duties and came out of their homes to perform their national duty. The paper is divided into three phases: the first phase examines the individual efforts of women of the Punjab to educate and to create consciousness among common women of the province; the second phase explores the formation of women's political organizations; and the last phase deals with political activism among women of the province. The paper, in addition to archival and printed sources, presents interviews with important persons related to the Pakistan Movement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
