Nauru is a small oval-shaped island in the western Pacific Ocean, located just 42 kilometers (26 mi.) south of the Equator. Various ethnic groups and their percentages in the population are Nauruan 58%, other Pacific Islander 26%, Chinese 8%, European 8%. The religion of the people is Christianity, with two-thirds being Protestants and the remaining one-third being Roman Catholics. The Central government budget, as of 1999 estimation is $37.2 million. GNP, as of 2001 estimation is $60 million.
