The article focuses on whitebark pine, a type of tree only found upwards of 6,000 feet, mainly in the western U.S. It mentions that given the value of tree species, it is hard to know that there are more dead whitebark pine trees than live ones in the country; and also mentions that climbers make their way back up the trees in the fall to remove the cages and detach the cones from the trees.
