Born: January 30, 1959 Occupation: Artist Vikky Alexander is a Canadian artist whose disciplines have included photography and photoconceptualism, collage, and installation. In a similar vein, Alexander, who was younger and less well known than the other Pictures Generation artists, began re-photographing images from fashion advertisements in the early 1980s. Similarly, Alexander's triptych Ecstasy (1982), which uses photographs from an advertisement featuring model Isabella Rossellini, references the Ecstasy of Saint Teresa, a seventeenth-century sculpture by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Art critic Donald Brackett wrote of the series for the website Critics at Large (7 Sept. 2019), "Of uniquely impactful power for me were Alexander's series of large scale photographs of shiny retail store windows, filled with an array of products but also highly reflective glass which absorbed passersby on the street and turned them into a big part of the commercial display.".
