Trauma-Informed Care Intervention for Culture and Climate Change within a Child Welfare Agency.

This study examines change in self-reported trauma-informed care (TIC) and secondary traumatic stress (STS) among child welfare staff participating in agency-wide training, focusing on the differential outcomes for younger staff at greater risk as well as the impact on children involved in the child welfare system served by the agency. Results include significant change in knowledge of TIC; older employees demonstrating greater well-being at baseline and decreased STS after training than younger employees; and improved performance in placement stability for children and youth in out-of-home care. Qualitative themes indicate improvement in staff knowledge, in interactions in the workplace, and with clients. We note the importance of utilizing staff to support training and change culture.
