The article focuses on issues and topics concerning global radiation limits. Before the advent of nuclear energy, one could consider all man-made radiation sources as localized in character. However, with the proliferation of nuclear energy applications to various industries, the scientific community are becoming concerned about the levels of harmful radiation into the atmosphere. It was for this reason that interest focused on establishing permissible limits for relatively small numbers of adults occupationally exposed to radiation hazards. The large-scale release of radioactive products into the earth’s atmosphere and the subsequent deposition of these materials on the earth’s surface attracted public interest and initiated controversy.
