The article analyzes the portrayal of tensions between inclusion and exclusion in the films of Tunisian-born French film director Abdellatif Kechiche "La Faute à Voltaire" and "L'Esquive," and compares it with "the hard-line" approach of filmmaker Rabah Ameur-Zaïmeche in his film "Wesh wesh, qu'est-ce qui se passe?" The author argues that Keniche's use of traditional French cultural artefacts in his films to expose the obstacles facing those seeking integration into French society and systemic flaws that characterise life in France, is more than satirical but also a way of revitalising narrative and a celebration of storytelling through cinema.
