The article discusses the cognitive processes involved in design. Two models for describing design thinking are presented, including the "Generation Game," which considers a first, second, and third generation of design methodology, and the "Models of Man" concept, which considers several distinct models for designers. Both models consider the history of design in the second half of the twentieth century in three phases: one extending from the late 1950s until the Portsmouth Symposium in 1967, the second extending until the publication of "The Reflective Practitioner" by researcher Donald Schön in 1983, and the third continuing thereafter.
