The article discusses the history of the automobile. In 1886 Karl Benz of Germany received a patent for a three-wheeled, gasoline-powered vehicle. The first standardized cars in the U.S. were produced by Frank and Charles Duryea between 1893 and 1896. Ransom E. Olds created the first automobile assembly line in the U.S., an idea that Henry Ford later expanded upon at the firm which eventually became the Ford Motor Company.
