The article presents a profile of several members of the U.S. military serving in war zones of Iraq and Afghanistan that are taking distance education coursework during their active duty. Challenges encountered by active soldiers in regards to Internet connectivity, time management, and military job responsibilities are explored and the efforts of Army Staff Sergeant Tausha Britton to study European History from the for-profit American Military University and Army Staff Sergeant Jessica Bezanson to pursue an associates degree from Central Texas College are highlighted. Other topics include federal tuition assistance for members of the military and the impact of military student enrollment on for-profit college revenues.
