Hold my hand and walk with me: empathy on the mental health inpatient unit.
The article reports on research conducted by professor Eimear Muir-Cochrane and her colleagues at the Flinders University School of Nursing and Midwifery in Australia in an effort to understand the role of empathy in mental health units in cases where there are conflicts between patients and mental health staff. The research found that both nurses and patients believed empathy should be used during mental health interventions and that nurses felt supervision and mentors helped promote empathy.
