The article examines how a growing number of U.S. colleges and universities are centralizing purchasing decisions to save more money on procurements. Noting that many decisions in higher education are done through a decentralized model, the author states that many university leaders hesitate to adopt a system of centralized buying. Particular attention is given to the purchasing policy at Ithaca College, led by President Thomas R. Rochon and Robert Cree, associate vice president for business and finance.
